November 12, 2004 || The Voice of Reason [SPOILERS]

It's been about 24 blissfully hours since I walked into the cinema and the opening shot for Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason was played before me.
I loved it. To say otherwise would mean that the past 11 months or so (since I watched Bridget Jones's Diary) have been a complete waste of time. But I regret nothing.
There were some things that weren't up to par, but overall I liked it. It doesn't match up just quite to it's predecessor, it's very, very close, but the first movie, the chase was far more exciting.
Bridget...is sadly, alot dumber in this film than the previous. I mean, in the book, she is extremely witty and smart and insightful and basically, a strong singleton woman. But in the movie, she only came up with only a few witty remarks and she seemed like a sod for most of it. But I lvoe Bridget, I adore her. She was alot more embarassing in this film, but I think us girls can relate. I believe that being in a relationship with almost-perfect Mark Darcy has made her slightly weaker at the knees, but overall she triumphs.
Her wardrobe is ghastly. She looked like an over-stuffed banana in the gold dress and she didn't carry the same air as she did in the first movie. She was certainly alot frumpier.
Mark Darcy, as arrogant and pompous as he is. I still love him. He saved the film for me. Colin Firth [IN BED] was my fantasy come to life, so please excuse me that I favour him, despite his faults, above anything else.
Daniel Cleaver, what a cad...but what a magnificent cad at that. Hugh Grant was perfection playing Cleaver...he was so sleazy...I loved it.
Together with Darcy, they produced one of my favourite scenes. The fight scene. I lvoe watching middle-age men going at it like bulls...they were funny and I must say Daniel Cleaver produced my favourite line..."If you lvoe her so much, why don't you marry her...coz then she'll shag me"
Perfect!
The one thing that annoyed me most was the whole lesbian thing...I can't believe they still put that in, not against lesbians or gays in general, but the whole sub-plot thing was pointless and made Bridget seem like a bigger idiot than she already thought she was...the reason why I loved to hate Rebecca in the book was because despite Rebecca trying to get Darcy into her pants, Bridget and Mark survived it and were made stronger...the whole lesbian thing was just ridiculous.
I am so glad I refrained myself from finding out how it ended...because it was certainly worth it.
I loved the film...I thought it was great and I can't wait to watch it again.

The first was better...but the 2nd has many Bridget/Mark moments...so I love it for that.
