October 26, 2005 || Pride & Prejudice
I’m on a high. I just got 90% (High Distinction) on my Racism essay. And this occurs; well never, so forgive me if I’m a little conceited at the moment.
I just read my uni friend, Jo’s (Hi Mrs. Butler) email and she spoke of how I disliked the new version of Pride & Prejudice. I was fascinated that she actually paid attention to what I commented on, because I was highly critical.
I’ll forget my cruelty towards the lead actress and focus on other aspects I did not like about it. There was way too much giggling for starters. Jena Malone (as the stupid younger sister) spoke 2 sentences in an ok English accent and for the rest of the film she was giggling ridiculously at every little nook and cranny.
The screenplay writer dumbed down the language. I understand that but it’s aggravating to know that they had to ruin Jane Austen’s words just because the next generation can’t be bothered picking up a thesaurus. NOT that I’m an expert, when I first read Pride & Prejudice back when I was a wee 14 year old (lol…Jo) I hated it because I couldn’t get my head around the language, but my determination to increase not only my book list but my vocabulary got the better of me and now I feel like I can read anything. I guess in a sense if teenagers these days enjoy the movie as it is now, with the simplification and all that…it might encourage them to go out read the book and enjoy it as well. And that’d be great, so I’m not too fussed about that.
It was cinematically beautiful I can say that much. The camera angles, the scenery was gorgeous, although a lot of the balls looked more like a hoe-down rather then an elegant party with elite members of society.
Anyways sorry…enough of that.
The next movie I will see in the cinemas will be Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Sexy Dan shirtless in the bath, Sexy Dan period.
Mind you, this is PRIOR warning to Carla and Ricalin, whom I’ll probably watch this movie with.
Muah!
